Volleyball Wins No-Doubter at Macalester

The No. 11 Gustavus volleyball team claimed a convincing straight-set victory over Macalester on Thursday night, marking its eighth shutout win in 15 matches. The Gusties won by scores of 25-8, 25-15, and 25-12 to improve to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The No. 11 Gustavus volleyball team claimed a convincing straight-set victory over Macalester on Thursday night, marking its eighth shutout win in 15 matches. The Gusties won by scores of 25-8, 25-15, and 25-12 to improve to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC.

Coming into the match, Macalester led the league in serving, averaging 1.94 aces per set. The Gusties beat the Scots at their own game with 10 aces compared to zero by the home team. Gustavus was also efficient on the attack, hitting .280 with 40 total kills. The Gusties limited the Scots to a -.032 attack percentage.

“The team came in focused and played our game. We were aggressive and smart with our serves,” Head Coach Rachelle Sherden said.

Lauren Hanson (Sr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) posted a team-high nine kills and a .364 attack percentage. Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) distributed 30 assists, along with seven digs, five kills, and three aces. Brittany Luethmers (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Kylee Cox (Fy., Brooklyn Center, Minn.) led the back line with 12 digs each.

Gustavus next travels to St. Catherine on Saturday for a 3 p.m. MIAC matchup.
