MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. – After the first day of the Pioneer Creek Collegiate meet, the Gusties are in a tie for first place with St. Johns. Gustavus shot a 298 on the day and played a very solid round overall to hold a share of the lead.
Of the day on the course, head coach Scott Moe said, “It was a good start to the 54 hole event for us. It’s a very tough golf course and we were able to see what a division one event looks like. The hole locations were very challenging and the course was very firm.”
Jacob Pederson (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) saw a ton of success on his way to shooting a 72 which put him into a tie for 10th place overall. Ben Hauge (Jr., Ramsey, Minn.) played strong again and posted a 74 while Carter Czichotzki (So., Moorhead, Minn.) shot a 75 for the Gusties. Thomas Carlson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) and Max Ullan (So., Blaine, Minn.) rounded out the top five for the Gusties with each posting a 77.
The Gusties will continue action tomorrow as they play two more rounds of golf at Maple Plain.
