WINONA, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team lost 4-3 at Saint Mary’s on Saturday night, dropping to 8-10-3 overall and 7-5 in the MIAC.
Saint Mary’s took the early 1-0 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the first period on a power play goal. But with 26 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Reid Brown (So., Superior, Colo.) knotted the score at 1-1 with the help of Evan Erickson (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.).
The home team took a 2-1 advantage 2:34 into the second period before Nick Sheak (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) scored his first goal of the season at the 7:35 mark. Patrick Gazich (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Mason Etter (Fy., Gafton, Wis.) assisted on the goal. Erickson then scored a power play goal with 7:26 remaining in the middle frame with the help of Caleb Anderson (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.).
Trailing 3-2 entering the third period, Saint Mary’s scored 2:34 into the final frame and added the game-winning goal with 10:20 left on the clock, and was able to hold on to the lead to complete the series sweep.
Chris Amsden (Jr., Sr. Peter, Minn.) made 30 saves in the loss.
After taking next weekend off, Gustavus has a home series against Concordia on Feb. 9-10. Friday’s game starts at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday’s game starts at 2:05 p.m.
