NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s track & field team took third out of four teams at the St. Olaf College Quadrangular Friday, scoring 99 points.
The University of St. Thomas finished first with 163 points, followed by 140 from Bethel University, 99 from Gustavus, and 91 from St. Olaf.
Gustavus claimed three top finishes along with several runner-up times.
“We are just kind of pushing some people around to see what events they are strongest in right now,” said Head Coach Dale Bahr. “We had some good surprises from guys that hadn’t run certain events before and today seemed to be the first day of competition that our team had a bit of a spark underneath them.”
Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.), Andrew Stumbo (Fy., Boone, Iowa), and Michael Hensch (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) each earned top crowns for the Gusties.
Rooney matched his 60-meter hurdle time from a couple weekends back of 8.36 for the top time. Stumbo finshed three seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run at 8:55.43. Hensch won the shot put for a second consecutive time with a throw of 49-11.75. Hensch finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 52-10.

Addtionally, the 4×400-meter relay team of Madigan, Bobby Verchota (So., Hastings, Minn.), Gustafson, and Jack Blaney (Jr., Lake Elmo, Minn.) came in third with a time of 3:31.00.
