MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Gustavus gymnastics team posted season-high numbers despite falling against the University of Wisconsin-Stout by a score of 185.272-179.050 during a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet Friday evening.
Gustavus tied a season-best score on the bars and claimed a season-high on the beam, scoring 46.050 on vault, 44.025 on bars, 44.525 on beam, and 44.450 on floor for the season-best all-around score.
“Tonight was certainly an improvement,” said Head Coach Aryn DeGrood. “We overall had a better showing. The work in the gym at practice is paying off and we are continuing to see improvements each week.”
Amanda Malo (Jr., Greenwood, Minn.) headlined the team’s performance, winning the floor with a season-high score of 9.350.
Leah Heilig (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) followed with a runner-up finish on the vault with a career-high score of 9.400.
Additionally, Veronica Vasina (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) and Katy Trunk (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) earned second and third place finishes. Vasina came in second on the bars with a 9.375, while Trunk finished third on the beam with a career-high 9.275.
Malo and Emily Anderson (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) competed in the all-around, with Malo tying for second with a score of 36.700. Anderson scored a season-high 35.425 as she came in fourth.
The Gusties return to action next Friday, heading to La Crosse, Wis. for a triangular meet at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
“We’ll get back in the gym on Monday to keep making the changes necessary to build up our line ups and work towards counting less falls and achieving our goals,” DeGrood concluded.
