WHITEWATER, Wis.  The Gustavus gymnastics team suffered a third consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet setback Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, falling by a score of 176.85-188.5.

As a team the Gusties scored season-highs on the vault and floor. Gustavus scored 46.225 on vault, 42.775 on bars, 42.525 on beam, and 45.325 on floor for a season-high total.

“Overall, it was an improvement,” Head Coach Aryn DeGrood commented. “The adjustments we made at practice last week paid off, but we still have improvements that need to be made. Vault and floor were overall better and helped build some momentum.”

Amanda Malo (Jr., Greenwood, Minn.) and Emily Anderson (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) competed in the all-around, finishing in second and third with scores of 35.225 and 34.775, respectively.

Katy Trunk (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) turned in the top finish for the Black and Gold, coming in fourth on the beam with a season-high score of 9.200.

“Katy Trunk had a great beam set for us which was a really important highlight at the end of a difficult rotation. We know that it’s coming and it is a process. We aren’t far from our goals. Eliminating falls will go a long way to getting us there,” DeGrood said.

The Gusties return to action next Friday, heading to Whitewater, Wis. for another conference dual meet against the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
