ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 7-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team begins Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend, taking on St. Olaf. Friday’s game in St. Peter begins at 5 p.m., while Saturday’s game in Northfield starts at 2 p.m. The Gusties most recently tied No. 10 UW-Eau Claire last Saturday in their home opener, moving to 1-0-1 overall. The Oles are coming off a 4-4 tie at UW-Stevens Point. St. Olaf hosts UW-Eau Claire on Thursday and enters that game with a 1-0-1 overall record.

Scouting the Gusties: In last Saturday’s top-10 matchup against UW-Eau Claire, the Gusties fought from behind twice to earn a 2-2 tie in their home opener. Kaitlyn Klein scored her second goal of the season at the 5:00 mark of the second period, while Diana Draayer netted her first score of the young season with 3:01 remaining in regulation. Amanda DiNella made 25 saves in a complete game effort. After two games this season, Klein leads the team with two goals and one assist for three points. Amelia Vosen also has three points on one goal and two assists. DiNella has started both games between the pipes with a 2.36 goals against average and an .894 save percentage.

Scouting the Oles: St. Olaf most recently skated to a 4-4 draw against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 28. Four different Oles scored goals with two coming on the power play. After two games this season, Xandi Swedberg, Mary Kate Eiden, and Jane Vezina lead the team with one goal and one assist each. Goaltending duties have been split by Sam Klemann and Kaitlyn Pellicci. Klemann earned a shutout win over UW-Stevens Point in game one, while Pellicci allowed four goals in the game two draw.
