ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are set to host their home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Gusties welcome the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Minnesota State University-Mankato to Vic Gustafson Pool.
Women’s last time out: The Gusties competed as a split squad Saturday and won both meets at Hamline and Saint Mary’s. The Gusties defeated Hamline 180-55, Saint Mary’s 124-107, and Iowa Lakes 121-71 to open the 2017-18 season. Junior Sydney Hallmark (Cedarburg, Wis.) earned MIAC Swimmer of the Week for her performance. Hallmark won two of three events at the Hamline dual meet, taking first in both the 1000 freestyle (11:21.83) and 200 individual medley (2:20.88). She also took second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.17). Her times in the 1000 free and 200 IM top the MIAC performance list this season.
Men’s last time out: The Gusties competed as a split squad Saturday and won both meets at Hamline and Saint Mary’s. The Gusties defeated Hamline 176-61, Saint Mary’s 92-89, and Iowa Lakes 97-68 to open the 2017-18 season. First-year Nolan Larson (West Des Moines, Iowa) highlighted the day for the men, earning MIAC Swimmer of the Week. In his first collegiate swim meet, Larson won all three events he raced in at the Hamline dual meet – the 200 freestyle (1:46.67), 100 butterfly (52.96), and 200 freestyle relay (1:29.67). Larson’s times in the 200 free and 100 fly top the MIAC performance list for the season.
