Men’s Swimming & Diving Wins At Hamline And Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team competed as a split squad Saturday and won both meets at Hamline and Saint Mary’s. The Gusties defeated Hamline 176-61, Saint Mary’s 92-89, and Iowa Lakes 97-68 to open the 2017-18 season.

WINONA and ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team competed as a split squad Saturday and won both meets at Hamline and Saint Mary’s. The Gusties defeated Hamline 176-61, Saint Mary’s 92-89, and Iowa Lakes 97-68 to open the 2017-18 season.

“It was a great day as we were able to compete against a pair of conference teams and have some success as well,” Head Coach Jon Carlson said.

The Gusties won 12 of 13 events against Hamline. Here are the winners:

  • 200 medley relay (1:40.07) – Josh Muntifering (Fy., Buffalo, Minn.), Tanner Sonnek (Jr., North Mankato, Minn.), Ryan Sklar (So., Lake Oswego, Ore.), Will Clark (So., Northfield, Minn.)
  • 1000 freestyle (10:19.21) – Mack Christianson (Fy., Cottage Grove, Minn.)
  • 200 freestyle (1:46.67) – Nolan Larson (Fy., West Des Moines, Iowa)
  • 50 freestyle (22.38) – Jacob Long (Fy., North Mankato, Minn.)
  • 200 IM (2:01.25) – Sonnek
  • 1-meter diving (226.35) – Carson Scholberg (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.)
  • 100 butterfly (52.96) – Larson
  • 100 freestyle (50.88) – Andrew Peters (Jr., Montevideo, Minn.)
  • 100 backstroke (57.66) – Frankie Zobitz (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.)
  • 3-meter diving (228.35) – Scholberg
  • 100 breaststroke (58.92) – Sonnek
  • 200 freestyle relay (1:29.67) – Long, Larson, Clark, Zobitz

The Gusties won two events against Saint Mary’s and Iowa Lake. Here are the winners:

The Gusties host UW-Stevens Point and MSU-Mankato next Saturday at 1 p.m.
