ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team continues its homestand at 4 p.m. Tuesday as it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Gusties enter the match 4-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after a 2-1 victory Saturday against Concordia, while the Blue Devils are 1-3 overall after most recently defeating UW-Superior 4-0 last Wednesday.

Scouting the Gusties: Laura Burnett-Kurie, who will coach her 99th game as the Gusties’ head coach tomorrow, has her squad out to the second best start to a season in her six years at the helm. After starting the year with a 2-0 loss to then-No. 10 ranked UW-Whitewater, the Gusties have gone 4-0-1 with four shutouts and have allowed only one goal in that span. Gustavus has been stronger in the second half thus far, scoring eight of its 11 total goals in the final 45 minutes. The Gusties have been strong on the attack as well, outshooting their opponents 106-65, and have limited the fouls to 39 compared to 51 from the challengers. Chase Miller (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) leads the offense with eight points on three goals and two assists. Emily Skogseth (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) is next in line with five points on two goals and an assist. Sophie Leininger (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) leads the team with three assists. Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) has been great as the Gustie keeper, leading the MIAC with 31 saves. Her .912 save percentage ranks third and her 0.49 goals against average is fourth best in the league.

Scouting the Blue Devils: UW-Stout snapped a three-game losing streak to start the season with a 4-0 shutout at UW-Superior last Wednesday. Each goal was scored by a different Blue Devil in the victory. Sydney Kasper leads the team with five points on one goal and three assists. Sarah Dickmann and Ryanne Millis have four points apiece – Dickman with two goals and Millis with a goal and two assists. Lynn Johnson has seen the most time between the posts with a 2.24 goals against average and .714 save percentage.
