The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s golf team traveled to Eau Claire, Wisconsin this past weekend to compete in the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational. The Gusties finished ahead of 13 other teams with a two-day score of 330-335–665.
Gustavus finished the first day of competition in fourth place after two rounds of play. The Gusties compiled a team score of 330, which was four strokes behind the leader (St. Thomas 326). Senior Steph Polzin and junior Erin Schliep led the Gusties on Saturday. Polzin finished the first day tied for fourth place with a score of 44-36–80. Schliep was tied for ninth place on Saturday with a score of 38-44–82.
On Sunday, the Gusties pulled away from the pack to win the season opener. Coach Scott Moe’s squad compiled a two-day score of 330-335–665, which was five strokes ahead of conference rival St. Thomas (326-344–670). Junior Alana Reetz recorded a score of 77 on the final round to help the Gusties secure the victory. Reetz finished tied for fourth place overall and led the team with a two-day total of 86-77–163. Kelli Groff finished second on the team and tied for eighth overall with a two-day score of 88-80–168.
The Gusties will be back in action Saturday, September 11th as they host the Gustie Fall Invite at Lakeside Country Club in Waseca, Minnesota.
