INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Committee has selected the individuals who will compete in the singles and doubles competition of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships, taking place May 25-27 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mohanad Alhouni (Jr., Tripoli, Libya) will compete in the 32-individual singles draw, while the duo of Alhouni and Patrick Whaling (So., Manikob Sabot, Va.) will pair up in the 16-team doubles draw.
Holding down the No. 1 singles spot for the Gusties, Alhouni ranks as the No. 1 player in the ITA Division III Central Region. The ITA singles champion owns a 32-5 singles record and recently earned his third-consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference singles and doubles team honors.
Alhouni and Whaling own a 20-7 doubles position in the No. 1 position for the Black and Gold and rank fifth in the Central Region. They went unbeaten at during conference play, going 6-0.
For the individual championships, the national committee will select seven singles players and three doubles teams from each of the four regions. Additionally, the committee would then select the remaining four singles players and four doubles team berths from a national at-large pool. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on win-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
Singles and doubles draws are set to be released at the conclusion of the team championships, May 22-24.
