ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus softball team has two upcoming Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheaders, hosting the University of St. Thomas on Saturday prior to heading to St. Olaf College on Sunday.
Last Time Out: The Gusties most recently completed their third-consecutive MIAC doubleheader sweep on Thursday, defeating Macalester College 13-0 and 4-1 in St. Paul, Minn. In game one, Hannah Heacox (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) threw her fourth career no-hitter. RECAP
The Series: Saturday’s games against St. Thomas mark the 94th and 95th all-time meetings between the Gustavus and St. Thomas softball programs, with the Tommies holding a 65-28 advantage. Last season, Gustavus was swept by the Tommies in St. Paul.
Sunday’s games at St. Olaf mark the 83rd and 84th all-time meetings between the Gustavus and St. Olaf softball programs, with the Gusties holding a 59-22-1 record. Last season, Gustavus swept the Oles at Gustie Softball Field.
Scouting St. Thomas: The Tommies completed a doubleheader sweep against Carleton College on Thursday, defeating the Knights by scores of 4-3 (8 inn.) and 11-3. St. Thomas currently sits second in the MIAC standings with a 12-4 conference record while going 27-7 overall. The Tommies rank atop the league in several offensive marks, including a MIAC-best team battting average (.346), slugging percentage (.473), hits (318), runs (227), and runs batted in (189).
At the plate, St. Thomas is led by Chase Shortly, who owns a .425 batting average while ranking in the top-five in the MIAC with 30 RBI. In the pitcher’s circle, Sammy Hogan and Jessica Eppenberger lead the Tommies. Hogan ranks fourth in the MIAC with 12 wins while leading the conference with five saves. Eppenberger has the second most wins in the league with 15 wins.
Scouting St. Olaf: The Oles are coming off a Thursday doubleheader sweep of Bethel University before they host Carleton College on Saturday, owning a 9-5 league record to sit one spot ahead of Gustavus.
St. Olaf is led by first-year pitcher Julie Graf, who owns a MIAC-best 0.85 ERA, 188 strikeouts, and a record of 16-4 in 124 innings pitched. Offensive, the Oles are led by Emily Carr, who owns a team-best .440 batting average along with five home runs, the second-most in the MIAC.

- Hannah Heacox pitched her 17th complete game in game one at Macalester on Thursday, notching seven strikeouts in her fourth career no-hitter.
- Heacox also tied Laura LeVander’s (1993-96) career Gustavus record of 19 shutouts.
- Jena Willis (Sr., Kalispell, Mt.) and Heacox are tied for the fourth-best earned run average in the MIAC (1.82).
