BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Monday announced Gustavus catcher Nolan Lepel (Jr., Plato, Minn.) as its Baseball Player-of-the-Week. Lepel has had an immediate impact on the Gustavus baseball team as a transfer student, cementing his role as the starting catcher and cleanup hitter in the lineup. This past week in six games, Lepel hit .474, going 9-for-19 with seven runs, 11 RBI, five walks, a double, and a home run. His slugging percentage was .684, helped in part by a grand slam against Carleton, which tied the game in the seventh inning and eventually led to an extra inning victory. In the MIAC opening doubleheader sweep at Carleton, Lepel hit 5-for-8 with three runs and six RBI.

This season, Lepel’s MIAC ranks are second in RBI (22), third in slugging percentage (.729), fourth in home runs (3), fourth in batting average (.438), and fourth in on-base percentage (.534). Lepel is the first Gustavus baseball player to earn MIAC Player-of-the-Week since Alan Woitas ’10 on March 29, 2010. Jacob Volness ’16 earned MIAC Pitcher-of-the-Week on May 9, 2016.
