Last time out
A weekend ago, the Gusties competed in a dual meet at Carleton College. The men came away with a 189-109 victory while the women fell by a score of 151-137.
The Gustie men were highlighted by the performance of Tanner Sonnek (So., North Mankato, Minn.), who tallied four first place finishes. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Sonnek set a season-best time of 2:06.05 to break a Thorpe Pool record. He then added individual wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.77) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.15) while also contributing to a top time in the 200-yard medley relay. For his efforts, Sonnek earned his third-straight MIAC Athlete of the Week honor. As a team, the Gusties totaled 11 top finishes.
Leading the way for the Gustie women was Hayley Booher (Sr., Warren, Vt.), who captured two first place finishes. Her time of 2:15.65 in the 200-yard individual medley was five seconds ahead of the next closest competitor to take first place. She also took the crown in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.61.
