Setting the scene: The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, traveling to St. Paul, Minn. to tip off against Macalester College. The Gusties enter with a 6-0 overall record while the Scots are 4-2 on the season. Gustvaus most recently earned its sixth win of the season Wednesday evening in the MIAC opener, defeating Concordia College by a score of 88-52 to remain undefeated.

The series: Saturday’s contest marks the 70th all-time meeting between Gustavus and Macalester with the Gusties holding a 57-12 record over the Scots. Last season, Gustavus earned two wins over Macalester.

Scouting the Scots: Macalester College has began the 2016-17 with a 4-2 record. In its conference opener opener on Wednesday, the Scots fell to the University of St. Thomas by a score of 44-77. Junior center Regan Fruh has led Macalester thus far, averaging 16.7 points per game which ranks as the third most in the MIAC. Her nine rebounds per game also ranks as the third best in the conference.

Gustavus notables:

– The Gusties’ 6-0 start marks the best start of the season since the 2008-09 Gustavus squad also began the season with a 6-0 record before suffering its first loss.

– Gustavus ranks first in the MIAC in team field goal percentage (47.4), assists per game (18.8), and steals per game (17.3).

– In the MIAC opener against Concordia, Gustavus shot a season-best 30-57 from the field. They also scored 88 points, which stands as the most points scored in a conference game since the 2013-14 Gustie squad tallied 89 points in a win over Carleton.

Kendall Thompson (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) went 3-5 from three-point range against Concordia and recorded a career-high 11 points.

Mikayla Miller (Jr., Goodhue, Minn.) has now compiled 102 points this season, averaging a team-best 17.0 points per game. Miller just needs 39 points to break 1,000 total points in her career
