The NCAA Division III Women’s Track & Field Committee announced the participants in the 2004 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Tuesday, May 25. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s track and field team will have two individuals and one relay team participating in the national competition that will take place May 27-29 in Decatur, Illinois. Jackie Luehmann (Senior, Lewiston, Minn.) qualified in the shot put, Kristin Petersen (Senior, Hayfield, Minn.) qualified in the discus throw and the team of Ali Cordie (Junior, Sartell, Minn.), Ashley Cronen (Sophomore, Kandiyohi, Minn.), Krista Cruse (First-year, Hastings, Minn.) and Kim Swanson (Senior, Minnetonka, Minn.) qualified in the 4×400-meter relay race.
Jackie Luehmann has qualified for the championships in the shot put with a distance of 46-1 1/2. The senior is a three-time outdoor track and field All-American in the shot put and will make her fourth consecutive appearance in the championships. Luehmann’s best performance at the national competition was a third place finish in 2001 (44-8). The finals for the shot put are scheduled for 2:30pm on Saturday, May 29.
Kristin Petersen has qualified for the championships in the discus throw with a distance of 156-1. Petersen, a 2003 All-American in the discus throw, will make her second consecutive appearance and hopes to improve on her fifth place finish in 2003 (147-1). The finals for the discus throw are scheduled for 1:00pm on Friday, May 28.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Ali Cordie, Ashley Cronen, Krista Cruse and Kim Swanson have qualified for the championships with a time of 3:55.06. It will be the first appearance in the championships for each of the team members and will be the first Gustavus relay team appearance since 1999. The finals for the relay are scheduled for 1:00pm on Saturday, May 29.
