NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s cross country team took seventh place out of 15 teams Saturday at Carleton’s Running of the Cows, scoring 210 points. The host Carleton College took first, Loras College placed second, and Cornell College came in third.
Sadie Novak-Klug (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) led the Gusties with a 6k time of 23:58.4, good for a 21st place finish.
Gabriela Passmore (Fy., Mapleton, Minn.) recorded the best time of her young career with a 29:34.4 finish to place 44th.
“In the last 2,000 meters, Gabbie (Passmore) kind of let loose and ended up passing 35 to 40 people on her way to the finish, ending up as our number-two runner,” Head Coach Dale Bahr said.
The Gusties had a team average time of 24:37 and the top-seven finished within the top-70 in a total of 267 participants:
19. Novak-Klug, 23:58.4
42. Passmore, 24:39.4
46. Steph Welke (Sr., Tomahawk, Wis.), 24:41.6

“We saw some really good things from the ladies,” Bahr commented. “I’m really proud of what the ladies are starting to do, which is coming together as a team. They are starting to click as a unit and it is pretty exciting.”
Gustavus has next weekend off and then returns to the course Oct. 15 at UW-La Crosse.
