Volleyball Wins A Pair At UW-Eau Claire Tournament

The Gustavus volleyball team competed in the UW-Eau Claire Invite on Saturday and came away with a pair of victories to improve to 10-2 overall. The Gusties opened the day with a shutout win over Lakeland and followed with a four-set win over Dominican.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus volleyball team competed in the UW-Eau Claire Invite on Saturday and came away with a pair of victories to improve to 10-2 overall. The Gusties opened the day with a shutout win over Lakeland and followed with a four-set win over Dominican.

“We served aggressively today,” Head Coach Rachelle Sherden said. “We were a little up and down and needed to make some adjustments offensively and defensively to slow Dominican down. But it was great to come away with a couple wins.”

Gustavus def. Lakeland 25-17, 25-19, 25-21

Taylor Trautman (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) paced the Gustie attack with nine kills in the three-set win. Nora Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.) averaged 10 assists per set and Hanna Albers (So., St. Louis, Mo.) registered nine digs. The Gusties hit at a .187 rate (36-91, 19 errors). No play-by-play was available for the match.

Lauren Hanson (So., Redwood Falls, Minn.) was the go-to attacker in the second match of the day as she recorded a game-high 16 kills on 38 attacks with two errors for a .368 percentage. Holtan tallied 35 assists and Brittany Luethmers (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) led the back line with 13 digs. Gustavus was more efficient on the attack, out-performing Dominican .296-.218. No play-by-play was available for the match.

Gustavus returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday at St. Olaf.
