Volleyball Travels To UW-Eau Claire Saturday For Two Matches

ST. PETER, Minn. – After beating Bethel 3-2 in the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game of the 2016 season, the Gustavus volleyball team travels to Eau Claire, Wis. on Saturday to take on Lakeland and Dominican, both Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference teams, in a tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Gusties enter the afternoon match against the Lakeland Muskies with an 8-2 overall record, while the Muskies are 5-2. The Dominican Stars have an overall record of 1-6. The Gusties play back-to-back matches, starting at 2 p.m. against the Muskies followed by a 4 p.m. match against the Stars.

Last Wednesday the Gusties defeated No. 12-ranked Bethel University in a close five-set match. Nora Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.) had another outstanding game with 55 assists, 16 kills (.593 hitting percentage), and 22 digs – all career bests.

Hanna Albers (So., St. Louis, Mo.) also had a big game, registering 19 kills (3.8 per set) and 20 digs. Brittany Luethmers was also a major contributor with 29 digs.

Lakeland has defeated Marian University, the University of Dubuque, Lake Forest, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Maranatha Baptist University, and has lost to No. 15-ranked UW-Stevens Point and Alma College.

After seven matches this season, Shannon Bishop leads the team on front line with 67 kills (2.58 per set), while Madison Schweitzer leads the defense with 74 digs (2.85 per set).

Dominican University faces Gustavus after playing No. 15-ranked Stevens Point in its first match of the UW-Eau Claire tournament. The Stars enter the tournament with one win against Rockford University for an overall record of 1-6.

After seven matches this season, Rosalyn Wyse leads the team on the attack and the back line with 44 kills (1.19 per set) and 73 digs (3.17 per set). Jackie Mursull is the team’s main setter with 99 assists (4.95 per set).
