EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s golf team turned in a team score of 339 (+51) to finish at the top of the leaderboard after day one of the Georgianni Blugold Invitational at Eau Claire Golf and Country Club Sunday.
The Gusties finished above seven other teams during round one of the tournament at the par 72, 5,804-yard course. Mae Meierhenry (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) posted the best score for the Gusties as she shot a 77 (+5), good for a second-best score.
Jessica Nelson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) had the next best finish for Gustavus, shooting 14-over-par with an 86 to sit at fourth place.
“We got off to a bad start of the front nine and appeared we didn’t get comfortable with our game until the backside,” said Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey. “To finish tomorrow we have to get started earlier and play with confidence and up to our ability.”
Tomorrow the tournament concludes at Wild Ridge Golf Club in Eau Claire, Wis. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
