ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus football program welcomed more the 150 alumni, family, and friends to its 26th annual Golden Gustie Football Golf Tournament held August 5 at Shoreland Country Club. The golf tourney marked the first official event of the football program’s 100th season, which culminates with a celebration event on October 1 after the homecoming game against Concordia.
“This year being the 100th season I think there is a lot of excitement,” Head Coach Peter Haugen said. “We had a great turnout and I’m very thankful for the alumni and their support. It’s fun to see guys get together and connect. And it has certainly been a big fundraiser for our program. I’m thankful for the generous gifts that alumni have given, but more than anything, it’s great to have people together to kick off this 100th season. The excitement leading up to homecoming and the celebration on October 1, there was a lot of talk.”
The Gustie football team will host an open practice at Hollingsworth Field on August 20, allowing alumni and friends an opportunity to watch practice and tour the stadium and field. The all-alumni and friends 100th season celebration takes place October 1 in Alumni Hall.
