Track & Field Competes In Drake Alternative Meet

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s and women’s track and field teams each competed in the Drake Alternative Meet on Saturday at the Gustavus Track & Field Complex. The Gustie women notched 14 top-5 finishes at their annual alumni meet, while the men earned 10.

Marit Sonnesyn led the Gustie women for the second consecutive week, as the senior posted a time of 4:53.63 in the 1500 meter run to earn the Gusties’ only individual championship. Aside from Sonnesyn, top-5 finishes included Lydia Hayes and Mikaela Algren taking third and fourth, respectively in the 800 meter run, Abigail Schnabel taking third in the 1500 run, Lauren Shurson earning second in the 5000 meter run, Mata Agre and Emily Sands taking second and third, respectively in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and Megan Eckberg taking fifth in the 100 meter hurdles.

In the field, Mallory Butchko, earned a fourth place finish in the pole vault, Anna Nesser took fifth in the long jump, Hayley Solheim and Kara Helgeson took second and fifth, respectively in the shot put, Marisa Morgan took fourth in the javelin, and Helgeson took fifth in the discus.

On the men’s side, Thomas Knobbe and Alex Logan led the way by taking the 3000 meter steeplechase and discus championship, respectively. In other track events, Josh Curtis took third in the 200 meter dash, Sam ReMine took second in the 400 meter dash, Alex Fredrickson earned silver in the 800 meter run, Carston Dammann took fifth in the 1500 meter run, Trevor Maxwell took fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, and Ed ReMine took second in the 400 meter hurdles.

In field events, Derek Huntley earned a third place finish in the pole vault, while Michael Hensch took second in the javelin.

Gustavus is back in action Wednesday when it sends athletes to the MSU Twilight Invite at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
