BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The long winter layoff certainly didn’t seem to affect the Gustavus Adolphus College men’s golf team, or Gustie senior Andrew Krasaway (Hermantown, Minn.). The Gusties won their third-straight team title at last weekend’s Saint John’s Spring Invitational, and Krasaway rode a remarkable school-record opening-round score to medalist honors to continue his outstanding spring performance. For his performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Krasaway Wednesday with his second MIAC Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week award of the spring.

Krasaway didn’t waste any time establishing himself as the leader at the Saint John’s Spring Invitational, as he tied the Gustavus 18-hole scoring record with an opening-round 65, which was seven shots under par. That gave him an insurmountable lead, and he brought home the title by shooting even-par 71s over each of the final two rounds to finish seven-under for the tournament with a 54-hole total of 207. Gustavus shot an 859 as a team to score their third-straight win this spring.

This season, Krasaway’s scoring average of 74.7 ranks among the top eight in the MIAC, and Gustavus’ team average of 296.1 is second-best in the league. In nine events, Krasaway has three top-10 finishes and two in the top five. Krasaway and the Gusties will put the finishing touches on the regular season on Sunday with a dual against St. Thomas in Jordan, Minn., at 1:30 p.m., and then will wait to see if they earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
