Women’s Golf Moves Up To Fifth At MIAC Championships, Final Round Today

COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team moved up one spot and is tied for fifth place after day two of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, hosted at Bunker Hills Golf Club. The Gusties collectively shot a 345 on day one and bettered their score to a 334 on day two for a two-round total of 679, which is 53 shots behind the leader St. Thomas.

“We took a better, more relaxed approach yesterday and our scores were slightly better,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “Today we are looking forward to putting it all together, playing more relaxed and trying to work our way up the leader board.”

Ellie Brandt (Fy., Wayzata, Minn.) is tied for 19th place with scores of 84-85 (+25) along with Chloe Altmann (Sr. Olivia, Minn.), who posted scores of 85-84 (+25). McKenzie Swenson (So., Buffalo, Minn.) improved by seven strokes from day one (89) by shooting an 82 and is tied for 24th, Mae Meierhenry (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) matched her round one score of 87 and is tied for 28th, and Emilie Anderson (Sr., Osceola, Wis.) showed the most improvement after posting a 91 on day one and an 83 on day two and is tied for 28th as well.

Grace Gilmore of Carleton leads the field with a low score of 76-74 (+6).

Round three begins today at 9 a.m.

DAY ONE/TWO RESULTS

The three-day, 54-hole MIAC Golf Championships tees off Saturday at 11:20 a.m. at Bunker Hills. Sunday’s second round also tees off at 11:20 a.m., and Monday’s final round tees off at 9 a.m. Spectators are welcome to attend and there is no admission fee, and spectators are encouraged to read and follow the tournament’s spectator rules.

There will be a short awards ceremony following Monday’s final round to honor the top teams and individuals. The championship team will receive the MIAC championship plaque, as well as the conference’s automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Golf Championships. The top 10 individual finishers will be named to the All-Championship team, and will be automatically eligible for All-Conference honors in the spring.
