Milan, Ill. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team shot a 316 on day two to finish in a tie for sixth place alongside Edgwood College on Saturday afternoon at the Pinnacle Country Club. Combined with their 335 from day one, the Gusties completed the meet with a 651 (+75).
Illinois Wesleyan turned in the top two-day total in the 20-tem field with a 614 (+38). Indian Hills Community College finished runner-up with a 620 (+44), and Illinois Wesleyan’s junior varsity finished third with a 636 +(60).
After shooting a +13 on day one, rookie Chris Captain (Rochester, Minn.) bounced back with a three-over 75 on day two to end up in a team-best 16th place overall with a 160 (+16). Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.), who led Gustavus after day one with an 82 (+10), finished next in line with a 162 (+18) to place 26th after going two strokes better with an 80 (+8) today.
Matt Spier (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) finished third on the team and 37th overall with a 165 (+21). Rounding out the Gustavus lineup was Matt Rastetter (Fr., Maple Grove, Min.) and Alec Aunan (Fr., Rock Island, Ill.). Rastetter went 82 (+10) on day two to bring his total to 166 (+22) and finish 45th overall. Aunan improved with an 80 (+8) to bring his two-day score to a 169 (+22) and take 55th.
The Gustavus men’s golf team will be back in action next weekend when it hosts the Bobby Krig Invite on April 19-20. The meet will be held at Ridges at Sand Creek and the Le Sueur Country Club.
