Women’s Golf In Seventh Place After Day One Of George Fox Invite

Peoria, Ariz. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team played its first round of the spring on Saturday afternoon at Westbrook Village Golf Course, registering a 320 in the opening round of the George Fox Invitational.  The score placed the team 31 strokes behind George Fox University, who leads the field after a 289 on Saturday.

Sam Falk (Sr., Glenwood, Minn.) led Gustavus with a 78 and McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) was right behind her with a 79.

“Not a bad day for our first competitive round since October,” said head coach Scott Moe. “Anytime you see a 66 and 67, that’s great golf. Three or four of the top teams in the country are here, and when that happens, you have to keep things in perspective. We came out of the gates and beat our fall average by five or six shots. We struggled the last couple holes, but overall I was very pleased. Sam had a great back nine and McKenzie was very steady. We’re looking to put together a full 18 holes tomorrow. We are not too far off, so are very encouraged.”

Gustavus will be back in action tomorrow for Day Two of the George Fox Invitational.
