Volleyball Travels To Winona To Face Saint Mary’s In Regular Season Finale On Saturday

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team will conclude the 2014 regular season with a road match against Saint Mary’s University at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the SMU Gym in Winona.  Sitting in a tie for six place alongside Concordia in the conference standings at 11-13 overall and 5-5 in the MIAC, the Gusties can secure a place in the 2014 MIAC Playoffs with a victory over the Cardinals or a loss by Concordia to Saint Benedict.  The Saint Mary’s volleyball team has secured a place in the post season and enters the weekend at 18-12 overall and 6-4 in the MIAC.

The Series… Saturday’s match will be the 56th meeting between Gustavus and Saint Mary’s in volleyball.  Gustavus holds the advantage in the all-time series with a record of 35-20.  The Cardinals took last season’s match by the score of 3-1 on Oct. 26 in St. Peter.

Ones To Watch…
Alyssa Taylor (Jr., Trimont, Minn.) | Gustavus junior hitter Alyssa Taylor was recently named the Gustavus Student-Athlete of the Month for October.  Taylor led the Gusties in kills in seven-out-of-eight October matches, which included reaching double-figure kills in all seven of those matches.  She totaled 103 kills (12.9 kpm) and hit an efficient rate of .417, and compiled 24 blocks during October.

Macki Fadness (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis.) | Saint Mary’s junior right side hitter Macki Fadness is the team’s only front row player to reach double-figure kills the last two outings.  She posted 10 kills against Augsburg on Oct. 25 and recorded a team-best 11 kills on Wednesday against St. Olaf.  Fadness is the team’s top offensive player with 235 kills and a .251 hitting percentage on the season.
