Women’s Soccer Set To Host Hamline On Senior Day Posted on October 31st, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team will step onto the Gustie Soccer Field for its final game of the 2014 season when it hosts Hamline University for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Gustavus is most recently coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Bethel on Wednesday and heads into Saturday’s game at 1-13-3 overall and 0-8-2 in the MIAC. Hamline will come into the contest with a record of 8-7-2 overall and 2-7-1 in the MIAC after defeating Saint Mary’s University 2-0 in its last outing on Wednesday afternoon in St. Paul.

Last Time Out
Gustavus:
 Gustavus looked to be in prime position to secure its first conference win of the season when Maddison Ackiss (So., Fairbanks, Alaska) got the Gusties on the board at the 46:21 mark off an assist from Sophie Leininger (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.). The goal was Ackiss’s ninth of the season and the assist was Leininger’s second of the year.

Gustavus kept it’s lead for a little more than 15 minutes before Bethel’s Savannah Swanson got the Royals on the board at 63:38 on a pass from teammate Samantha Provost to knot things up at 1-1. The two teams stayed scoreless for the remainder of regulation, but approximately one and a half minutes into the extra period, Bethel’s Jessica Huseby secured the sudden death victory for the Royals off a pass from Erin Ness.

Hamline: The Pipers earned their second conference victory of the season when they shutout the Cardinals of Saint Mary’s on Wednesday. In their final home game, the Pipers used two late first half goals by Corinne Henning and Lolly Higa to earn the victory. 

Series History
Today’s contest marks the 24th meeting between Gustavus and Hamline in women’s soccer.  The Gusties have dominated the series thus far with a record of 21-2-0.  One of those two losses to the Pipers came last season when Hamline took home a 4-1 victory over the Gusties in St. Paul.
