Women’s Golf Travels to Eau Claire to Open 2014 Season

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team is set to open its 2014 season when it travels to Eau Claire, Wis. this Saturday to take part in the Georgianni Memorial Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire. This season marks the 10th in a row that the team will open in Eau Claire.

After finishing third in the MIAC in 2013, Gustavus will have high hopes going into this season after not graduating anyone from last season’s roster. Sam Falk (Sr., Glenwood, Minn.) and Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) will be looked upon to lead the Gusties again this season after strong a 2013-14 campaign. Falk placed eighth at the 2013 MIAC Championships to earn her third consecutive All-Conference honor, while Meierhenry tied for 10th to claim a spot on the All-MIAC team for the first time in her career.

Joining Falk and Meierhenery will be fellow returners Lauren Johnson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), Liz Strom (Sr., Fargo, N.D.), Jordan Drenttel (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Chloe Altmann (Jr., Olivia, Minn.), Emilie Anderson (Jr., Osceola, Wis.), Hannah Erickson (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) and Mallory Drenttel (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), along with newcomers Abbie Grevlos (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.), Halle Hauer (Fy., River Falls, Wis.), Jessica Huntsman (Fy., Walla Walla, Wash.), Emma Johnson (Fy., Aurora, Colo.) and McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.).

The 2013 Georgianni Memorial Invitational saw Gustavus finish third out of 14 teams. Falk led the way for the Gusties by totaling a 16-over 161 on the to finish in a tie for sixth.

This weekend’s meet will take place in two different locations. On Saturday, teams will compete at Wild Ridge Golf Course beginning at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at Mill Run Golf Course.
