Women’s Golf Finishes Third At NCAA Championships, Griggs Places Tied For Sixth Individually

The Gustavus women’s golf team posted a final round score of 325 to hang on for third place at the NCAA Championships out of 21 teams. The 72-hole tournament, was played at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Junior Kali Griggs (Burnsville, Minn.) wrapped up a strong tournament with a final round score of 79 (+7). Griggs finished tied for sixth overall (out of 111) with a 72-hole total of 77-80-78-79–314 to improve on her 84th place finish last year.

The Gusties started the day three strokes ahead of Southwestern University, but saw the lead dwindle to two strokes as Griggs had three holes remaining. Griggs parred the 16th and 17th holes before shooting a five on the par-4 last hole to clinch third place for Coach Scott Moe and Gustavus by one shot.

Methodist University won the team title for the 12th consecutive year. The Monarchs posted a 72-hole total of 321-310-310-316–1257. The University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point placed second at 322-318-320-322–1282.
