Le Sueur, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team tied Carleton College in a dual on Friday at Le Sueur Country Club.  Each squad recorded a score of 335 (+43) on the afternoon in the tie.  Both teams will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the Carleton Invitational at Northfield Golf Club.

“The course played really tough today with strong winds and some tucked pin positions,” mentioned Head Coach Scott Moe.  “Tying today goes to show just how important every shot is.  Playing a few holes a little smarter would have made a huge difference in what could have been a big win against a very good Carleton team.”

Carleton’s Shannon Holden recorded the lowest round of the day with a four-over 77.  For the Gusties, Jordan Drenttel (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) recorded the low round and finished just one stroke behind Holden with a five-over-par 78.  Drenttel finished strong, capping the round two-under-par over the final five holes.

“Jordan played a fantastic round today,” said Moe.  “We always talk about finishing strong.  She did that and then some finishing two under her last five holes.  I was really happy with her play.”

Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) tallied a nine-over 82 to finish as the second Gustie in the four-player lineup.

“Next weekend is going to be a big weekend for us at Carleton’s event,” finished Moe.  “We need to be sharper around the greens.  The great thing is we have some time to get better.”
