Collegeville, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s indoor track and field team scored 16 points on day two to finish in sixth place with a final tally of 63.5 points at the 2014 MIAC Championships held over the weekend at the McNeely Spectrum on the campus of Saint John’s University.
Gustavus picked up 10 of its 16 points in the 60-meter hurdles. Jordan Lovestrand (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) earned All-Conference honors in the first conference meet of his career with a third place finish after crossing the finish line in 8.63 in the 60-meter hurdles. Scott Williams (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) came in fifth place in the same event, turning in a time of 8.76.
Blair Riegel (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.), who finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 21-feet 4.25-inches, added an All-Conference performance in the triple jump after recording a mark of 44-feet 4.25-inches.
The Gusties also tallied a pair of top five place finishes in the relays. In the 4×200-meter relay, Phillip Butler (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.), Jeffrey Dubose (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.), Sean O’Connell (Fr., St. Peter, Minn.), and Riegel took fourth with a time of 1:31.88. Jordan Lovestrand, Ed ReMine (Fr., Mantorville, Minn.), Sam ReMine (Fr., Mantorville, Minn.), and Cameron Clause (Sr., Mankato, Minn.) teamed up in the 4×400-meter relay to place fourth in 3:26.14.
There was a short awards ceremony following the conclusion of the meet to honor both team champions. The top three individuals in each event and the first-place relay team automatically earn All-Conference honors, and the 4th-through-6th place finishers in each open event and 2nd-through-6th place relay teams will all be named All-Conference Honorable Mention.
