Coon Rapids, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team sits in sixth place with a team-score of 620 (+44) after the second day of the 2013 MIAC Championships being held over the weekend at Bunker Hills Golf Course. After shooting a 308 on day one, the Gusties followed with a 312 on the day two.
“We were in a tough spot heading into today and we weren’t very sharp throughout the round,” said Head Coach Scott Moe. “ The hope is that we can play our game tomorrow, have some fun, and finish the fall on a good note.”
Saint John’s held strong in first place after turning in a second round 309. The Johnnies now have a four shot lead over second place Bethel with a two-day team-score of 596 (+20). Bethel shot a 302 on Sunday to finish in second with an overall total of 600 (+24). Augsburg rounds out the top three in third with a 606 (+30) after shooting a 306 today.
Leading the Gusties on day two was Andrew Brandt (So., Medina, Minn.) and Andrew Krasaway (So., Hermantown, Minn.) who both finished the day in 23rd overall with 156s (+12). Brandt led the team with a four-over-par 76, while Krasaway carded a five-over-par 77.
Tyler McMorrow (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn.) is still at the head of Coach Moe’s squad after two days, firing an 80 (+8) on Sunday to finish in 16th with a 154 (+10)
Matt Jensen (Sr., Edina, Minn.) and Andrew Oakes (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.) rounded out the team by registering a 79 (+7) and an 82 (+10), respectively. Oakes sits in 28th with a 157 (+13), and Jensen is in 36th with a 160 (+16).
Monday’s final round begins at 9:00 a.m. Jensen will lead things off for Gustavus at 9:40 p.m. on the final day. A short awards ceremony to honor the team champions and All-Championship Team (top 10 including ties) will follow the final round. Admission is free and spectators are welcome. All spectators are encouraged to review the MIAC Golf Championships spectator rules prior to attending.
