Mankato, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team finished first in the Gustauvus Fall Invitational, which concluded Sunday afternoon at North Links Golf Course. The Gusties finished 88-over-par with a total of 668 on the weekend. The two-day event began on Saturday, Sept. 28th at Le Sueur Country Club where the Gusties shot a 330 (+38) before finishing on Sunday with a 338 (+50).
Gustavus finished seven strokes in front of the Gustavus Black team, which coupled a first round 343 (+51) with a final round 332 (+40) for a weekend total of 675 (+95).
In the individual standings, Mae Meierhenry (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.) of the Gustavus Black team finished on top of the field with a 162 (+17) on the weekend. Meierhenry turned in a 77 (+4) on Saturday and an 85 (+13) on Sunday to finish one shot in front of Gustauvus’s Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) and Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.).
Falk and Johnson tied for second with a weekend total of 163 (+18). Falk sat tied for first with Meierhenry at four-over after day one, and finished with a 14-over 86 on the final day of competition. Johnson carded an 83 (+10) on Saturday before turning in the best score of the day on Sunday with an 80 (+8).
The Gusties will be back in action next weekend as they will participate in the 2013 MIAC Championships at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, Minn., from Saturday, Oct. 5th to Monday, Oct. 7th.
