Elk River, Minn. – After the second round of the 2013 Twin Cities Classic held Sunday at the Elk River Golf Club, the Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team held on to its fourth place standing after shooting a 303. To go along with their 304 on Saturday, the Gusties have a combined team-total of 607 (+31).
The University of Manitoba made the jump from seventh place to first after posting a 288 in Elk River. Manitoba now leads the field with a 595 (+19), while UW-Eau Claire sits in second with a 596 (+20), and Saint John’s University rounds out the top three in third with a 302 (+29). UW-Eau Claire shot a 295, and Saint John’s shot a 302 today.
Manitoba appeared to be more comfortable at Elk River because after shooting a four-under par 68, Scott Mazur grabbed sole possession of first place. Combined with his opening round 77 (+5), Mazur leads the field with a one-over 145. In second place sits a logjam of four golfers. Ben Brooks and Brady Hanson of UW-Eau Claire, Drew Taylor of Nebraska Wesleyan, and Casey Vangsness of Saint John’s all sit tied for second with two-day totals of 146 (+2).
Andrew Brandt (So., Medina, Minn.) led Gustavus on the second day with an even par 72. With his 76 (+4) on day one at the Links at Northfork, Brandt is now in eighth place with a 148 (+4). Tyler McMorrow (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn.) dropped one spot to 16th after turning in a three-over 75 today. McMorrow will head into the final day with a 150 (+6).
Matt Jensen (Sr., Edina, Minn.) dropped to 22nd (152, +8) after shooting a 77 (+5) on day two. Andrew Oakes (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.) is now in 44th (157, +13) after carding a 79 (+7), and Lee Bystrom (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) sits in 62nd (160, +16) following an 81 (+9).
The Twin Cities Classic will come to end tomorrow at Gustavus’s home course, the Le Sueur Country Club located south of Le Sueur, Minn.. Monday’s action will begin with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m.
