St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team will embark on a new season this Saturday when it travels to Golden Valley, Minn. to face the University of St. Thomas in a dual at the Golden Valley Country Club.
Despite the loss of 2012 MIAC Individual Medalist and GCAA First Team All-American Alex Kolquist, the Gusties return to the links with a pair of battle-tested seniors who have a combined 138 rounds of collegiate golf under their belts. Tyler McMorrow (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Andrew Oakes (Hermantown, Minn.) head into their senior seasons looking to put the finishing touch on their Gustavus careers with a second straight MIAC Championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament. McMorrow finished last season ranked 33rd in the nation with a stroke average of 74.82. He placed fourth (224, +8) at the MIAC Championships and earned a spot on the GCAA All-America Third Team following a team-leading fifth place finish (290, +2) at the NCAA Championships. Oakes, a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, also earned All-Conference marks in 2012 with a fourth place finish (224, +8). He finished third on the team with a 75.3 stroke average and posted six finishes inside the top 10 over the 2012-13 school year.
The Gustavus men’s golf team concluded its 2012-13 season with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships held in Destin, Fla. The Gusties shot a four-day total of 1200 (+60), placing inside the top 10 for the 10th time in program history.
The reigning MIAC Champion Gusties enter the 2013 falls season ranked No. 10 in the country according to the GolfWorld/Nike Golf Division III College Preseason Coaches’ Poll released on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Click here to view the complete Division III men’s poll.
