Swimming & Diving Returns From Winter Training Trip

St. Peter, Minn. – From the sandy beaches of the Sunshine State, to the frozen grounds of the Minnesota River Valley, the Gustavus Adolphus men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams returned to St. Peter after spending eight days in Vero Beach, Fla. on the team’s annual winter training trip.

“We had a great trip,” said head coach Jon Carlson, “but its good to back home and back to work.”

Along with their training schedule and recreation time on the beach, the Gusties took part in one meet while in Vero Beach.  Gustavus, the University of Akron, and Canesius College competed in a non-scored triangular on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the North County Aquatic Center.

“We trained hard all week and swam great against some good competition on Saturday,” commented Carlson.  “But for as good as we were in the pool, we were even better in the ocean, becoming expert body surfers by the end of the trip.  The combination of the waves, weather,  sunset, and even the dolphins together with our swimmers in the ocean is an image that is among my favorites as a coach.”

The Gustavus swimming and diving teams will take part in their first event of the new year on Friday, Jan. 11 when they travel to Northfield, Minn. to take on Carleton in a dual beginning at 5:00 p.m.
