Women’s Golf Drops To Third Following Second Day Of MIAC Championships

Coon Rapids, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team sits in third place with a two-day team-total 655 (+79) after shooting a 330 on the second day of the 2012 MIAC Championships being held over the weekend at Bunker Hills Golf Course.

St. Olaf moved into a first place standing (644) after shooting a tournament-low 314 on Sunday.  Carleton moved into second place (653) after recording a 315.

Gustavus’ Kayleigh Dittes (Sr., Eden Prairie) and Liz Strom (So., Fargo, N.D.) provided the consistency that Head Coach Scott Moe was looking for on the second day of the tournament.  Dittes, who shot a 79 (+7) on the opening day, fired an 80 (+8) on day two.  Strom followed suit alongside her senior captain with an 80 (+8) on day two following a 79 (+7) on day one.  Both Dittes and Strom sit in a tie for fifth place with 159s (+15) heading into the final day.

Sam Falk (So., Glenwood, Minn.), who was in second place after shooting a 78 (+6) on day one, dropped eight strokes with an 86 (+14) on day two.  She now sits ninth overall with a two-day score of 164 (+20).

Holly Karkela (So., Perham, Minn.) improved four strokes with an 85 (+13) on day two.  She now sits 22nd overall with a 174 (+30).  Olivia Tusa (Fy., Hermantown, Minn.) also shot an 85 (+13) today and is in 28th with a 178 (+34).

St. Olaf’s Molly Erickson is the current leader with a 154 (+10) after shooting a 74 (+2) in the second round.  Rounding out the top three is Carleton’s Gina Kabasakalis in second (155) and St. Thomas’ Doyle O’Brien in third (156).

The event concludes Monday, with tee time starting at 9 a.m. The Round 3 pairings are again determined by team and individual results over the first two days. For the rest of the event, teams will tee of in reverse order of score, with their players slotted in reverse order of finish. A short awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of Monday’s round to honor the team champions and All-Conference individuals (top 10).
