The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced on Monday that Julie Mahre has been named the MIAC Player of the Week for softball. Mahre provided a spark at the top of the Gustavus batting order as the Gusties were 6-0 last week at the Tucson Invitational with wins over Kalamazoo College, the University of Chicago, Lawrence University, and Luther College.

Mahre, a senior second baseman from Lino Lakes, Minn., hit .667 (12-for-18) in the six games, including three doubles and one home run, scored 10 runs, and contributed six RBI. In a pair of wins against Chicago and Lawrence on Monday, Mahre went a combined 6-for-6 from the plate, scored five runs and batted in four runs. Defensively, Mahre has yet to commit an error in twelve games this season.

The Gusties, who were picked to finish second in the MIAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, are riding a 10-game winning streak and are 10-2 overall. Gustavus will begin MIAC play on Thursday with doubleheader against Carleton at 4 p.m. in St. Peter.

Julie is the daughter of Bill and Monica Mahre of Lino Lakes, Minn. and is a graduate of White Bear Lake High School.
