Women’s Tennis Falls 9-0 To Top-Ranked Washington and Lee

The Gustavus women’s team suffered a 9-0 loss to top-ranked Washington and Lee in Lexington, Va. after playing a tight match against sixth-ranked Mary Washington. The Gusties, who are in the middle of a tough portion of their schedule, fell to 10-6 overall and will face 15th-ranked Wellesley on Thursday. Washington and Lee, last year’s NCAA Champion, remained undefeated at 14-0.

The tandem of Sam Frank and Ali O’Neal continued to compete well at #2 doubles, but lost to Leah Weston and Catherine Reed 8-5. The Generals also earned points as Katie Tabb and Lauren Caire defeated Jenni White and Sierra Krebsbach 8-1 and Virginia Dickinson and Kelly Will defeated Erica Dobson and Laura Arnebeck 8-3 at #1 and #3 doubles, respectively.

Ali O’Neal provided the closest singles match of the contest at #4 singles as she fought back to win the second set 6-2 against Leah Weston after dropping the first set 6-4 before losing the tiebreaker 10-8. Two service breaks were the difference in the match at #1 singles as Jenni White lost 6-4, 6-3 to Katie Tabb. Other Gustie losses came from Sierra Krebsbach (#2), Sam Frank (#3), Erica Dobson (#5), and Jenny Arnfelt (#6).

Gustavus will play three more matches against nationally ranked teams at the Fab Five Tournament in four days.
