Men’s Indoor Track and Field Squad Set To Compete at MIAC Championships This Weekend

The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team is looking forward to the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships after spending the month of February participating in four meets in preparation for the conference meet. The meet begins on Thursday with the multi-event competition and runs through Saturday. The event is taking place at the Donald McNeely Spectrum on the campus of Saint John’s University.

The Gusties currently have five different performers ranked in the top eight of the MIAC Performance lists and two of those five are listed in multiple events. Senior Chris deLaubenfels (Mount Vernon, Iowa) will lead the team as he is currently ranked first in the 5,000 meters (14:48.33), fourth in the 3,000 meters (8:37.41), and 11th in the mile (4:22.94). Senior Drew Hood (Mankato, Minn.), who finished sixth in the pole vault last year, is currently ranked first at a height of 15-1. Hood will also take part in the multi-event where he finished second last year. Senior Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn.), who won the 55-meter hurdles last year, enters this year’s meet ranked second with a time of 7.81. Others entering the meet ranked in the top eight include sophomore Colin Rust (Chanhassen, Minn.), who is currently sixth in the long jump at 21-7 1/2, and sophomore Brian Anderson (Bloomington, Minn.), who is eighth in the shot put at 46-4.

The Gusties will also enter a solid 4×400 relay team of Matt Leeb (Fy., Kasota, Minn.), Tyler Geyen, Ben Treichel (Sr., Webster, Wis.), and Cole Carlson (So., Mora, Minn.). This group currently ranks sixth with a time of 3:26.70.
