Women’s Indoor Track and Field Squad Set For MIAC Championships This Weekend

The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team is looking forward to the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships after spending the month of February participating in four meets in preparation for the conference meet. The meet begins with the heptathlon competition on Thursday and runs through Saturday afternoon at Saint John’s University.

The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team is looking forward to the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships after spending the month of February participating in four meets in preparation for the conference meet. The meet begins with the heptathlon competition on Thursday and runs through Saturday afternoon. Saint John’s and Saint Ben’s will serve as the hosts with the event taking place at the Donald McNeely Spectrum on the Saint John’s campus.

The Gusties currently have 12 different performers ranked in the top eight of the MIAC Performance lists and two of those 12 are listed in multiple events. The team will be led by sophomore standout Kaelene Lundstrum (Bird Island, Minn.), who currently ranks first in the conference in the pentathlon (3,203 points), first in the high jump (5-6), and sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.95). First year Megan Lundgren (Mankato, Minn.) ranks fourth in the 400 meters (60.49), and seventh in the 800 meters (2:18.30). Senior Shanna Dawson (Fairmont, Minn.), who finished second in the pole vault last year, is currently ranked second at a height of 11′ 3 3/4″, while first year Kelly Nelson (Milaca, Minn.) ranks third in the pole vault (10′ 9″). Other top field event performers include first year Janey Helland (Mapleton, Minn.), who ranks first in the long jump (17-5 1/2), sophomore Anna Bauer (Hastings, Minn.), who ranks third in the weight throw (50-4 1/2), junior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.), who ranks fourth in the shot put (40-9) and senior Sari Lindeman (Cannon Falls, Minn.), who ranks fourth in the triple jump (35-6 3/4).

Gustavus will also rely on two strong relay teams including the 4×200 relay consisting of Danielle Serbus (Fy.,Franklin, Minn.), Megan Lundgren, Sari Lindeman, and Lyntrell Wilson (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) and the 4×400 relay consisting of Elizabeth Pringle (Jr., Northfield, Minn.), Megan Lundgren, Janey Helland, and Kaelene Lundstrum.
