The Gustavus women’s hockey team posted its third consecutive MIAC shutout with a 3-0 victory over St. Catherine on Friday night at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. Jessica Doig and Molly Doyle each recorded a goal and an assist in the win as the Gusties outshot the Wildcats 74-6. Gustavus, which posted its fifth straight 20-win season, improved to 20-2-0 overall and 15-0-0 in the league. St. Kate’s, which snapped a six-game unbeaten streak, dropped to 9-11-2 overall and 6-8-1 in the conference.

Gustavus set the tone for the game in the first period as the Gusties put 17 shots on St. Kate’s goaltender Mel Gerten. Gerten kept the Wildcats in the contest as the period ended at a 0-0 tie.

The Gusties increased the pressure, but did not get on the scoreboard until halfway through the second period. Jessica Doig broke the scoreless tie at 11:32 on a power play goal after Megan Boehmer was called for a body checking penalty. Sara Yungner and Molly Doyle were credited with assists on the play. Doig and Doyle would connect again before the end of the second period as Doyle would score with 00:33 remaining on a pass from Doig. Mari Gunderson added an unassisted goal at 9:32 in the third period to ensure the victory.

Breanna Scavo recorded her 18th win and sixth shutout as she made six saves. Gerten kept the Wildcats in the game as she made 71 saves while allowing only three goals. Both squads will wrap up the series Saturday afternoon in St. Peter at 2 p.m.
