Danielle Burgmeier Breaks School Record In 400-Meter Hurdles

Gustavus senior Danielle Burgmeier broke the Gustavus women’s outdoor track record in the 400-meter hurdles Wednesday night at the Mankato State University Twilight Meet in Mankato, Minn. Burgmeier crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:03.42, breaking the previous record of 1:03.61 set by Carlie Hanson in 2006.

Gustavus senior Danielle Burgmeier (Plymouth, Minn.) broke the Gustavus women’s outdoor track record in the 400-meter hurdles Wednesday at the Mankato State University Twilight Meet in Mankato, Minn. Burgmeier crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:03.42, breaking the previous record of 1:03.61 set by Carlie Hanson in 2006.

Sarah Baker also had a strong performance, placing first in the long jump with a distance of 5.30 meters. Baker finished third in the high jump as well, clearing 1.62 meters.  Other top finishers for the Gustavus women’s team include Sara Lundgren, Lauren Rothschiller, Emily Klatt and Megan Endresen. Lundgren took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.71; Rothschiller placed second in the triple jump, clearing 11.24 meters with Klatt right behind in third after a jump of 10.81 meters; and Endresen also garnered bronze with a 45.66-meter throw in the hammer throw.

Highlighting the men’s team were Steve Groskreutz and Eric Jorgenson. Groskreutz ran his fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles at 53.64, which ranks 12th in Division III. Jorgenson also jumped up the Division III rankings to No. 14 in the 800-meter with a time of 1:52.66.

Rounding out the men’s team notables were Matt Dvorak (second in 100-meter, 11.18), Mark Stice (second in hammer throw, 50.72 meters), David Johnson (second in 400-meter, 50.88 and third in 200-meter, 23.72), Blair Riegel (third in 100-meter, 11.22) and Ryan Obele (third in discus, 43.96 meters).

The Gustavus track and field team is in action Thursday and Friday at the MIAC Multi’s held at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
