Strong performances in the freestyle events at the Carthage Invitational last weekend in Kenosha, Wis. improved the number of top MIAC times held by Gustavus swimmers. Skylar Davis (So., Palatine, Ill.) now holds the fastest MIAC times in the 500 freestyle (4:38.92), the 1000 freestyle (9:46.41), and the 1650 freestyle (16:18.19). Carrie Gundersen (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) now owns the top MIAC times in four events, including the 200 freestyle (2:00.21), the 500 freestyle (5:22.51), the 1000 freestyle (10:55.63), and the 1650 freestyle (18:33.57).
On the women’s side, Emma Espel (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) still owns the fastest 100 butterfly time at 1:02.77. Three women’s relay teams hold the second-fastest times in the 200 freestyle relay, the 400 freestyle relay, and the 400 medley relay.
On the men’s side, Ben Hanson (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) has the fastest 200 butterfly time of the season at 1:55.91, while Matt Stewart (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) improved on the top time in the 200 freestyle (1:43.59). The 800 freestyle relay team of Skylar and Whitaker Davis, Hanson, and Billy Cuevas (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) hold the top time at 7:01.22. The 200 and 400 freestyle relays, along with the 200 and 400 medley relay teams, have posted the second fastest times this season.
In four events, members of the Gustavus men’s team own the three fastest times. In addition to Skylar Davis holding the top time in the 500 freestyle, Gusties have the next three times from Hanson, Stewart, and Whitaker Davis (Fy., Palatine, Ill.). The Davis brothers and Hanson own the top three times in the 1000 and 1650 freestyle, while Hanson, Connor Ziegler (Sr., Sauk Rapids, Minn.), and Stewart hold first three times in the 200 butterfly.
