The Gustavus men’s basketball team saw its 10-game win streak come to an end in St. Paul on Saturday as the Gusties fell to St. Thomas 61-56. It was only the second loss for Gustavus in MIAC play this season. Phil Sowden led the Gusties with 19 points.
The Gusties got off to an extremely slow start and trailed St. Thomas by as many as 17 points in the first half. The Tommies held a 15-point lead at the intermission.
Coach Mark Hanson’s squad came charging back in the second half and regained the lead late in the game, however St. Thomas hit several key shots down the stretch to claim the victory.
The Gusties will remain in first place at 14-2, but gave back the game that they gained with the big win over Macalester on Wednesday night. Gustavus will have Monday off before hosting St. Mary’s next Wednesday night, Feb. 11 at 7:30 pm.
