The Gustavus women’s soccer team suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Carleton on the Gustavus Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Knights scored one goal in the first half and one in the second half to build a 2-0 lead, before the Gusties cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Ashley Anderson in the 84th minute. Gustavus pressured the Knights late in the match to try and tie the score but could not record the equalizer as Carleton picked up its first league win of the season.

The two teams played very evenly in the first half, however the Knights jumped to a 1-0 lead when Dylan Welch scored in the 27th minute. Carleton held a 1-0 lead at the intermission. Both teams recorded five shots on goal in the first half.

The Gusties had the better of the play for a good part of the second half, however they could not find a way to get the ball past Carleton goalkeeper Yusi He. The Knights gave themselves some breathing room when Emma Dobbins scored with 10 minutes remaining in regulation play to extend their lead to 2-0. Gustavus cut the lead to 2-1 just four minutes later as Ashley Anderson scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Julien Babel. The Gusties worked hard to try and score the equalizer in the final five minutes of the match, however Carleton kept Gustavus at bay and escaped with a 2-1 victory.

The Gusties out-shot the Knights 12-9 in the match. Goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson made five saves for Gustavus, while Yusi He made five saves for Carleton.
