Women’s Track & Field Takes Part In Meet Of The UnSaintly

The Gustavus women’s track and field team had a strong showing at the Meet of the UnSaintly hosted by Hamline University in St. Paul on May 6-7.  No team scores were kept at the meet, as 24 individual Gustavus athletes recorded at least one finish in the top-10.  It was the squad’s final regular season meet before competing at the 2011 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14.

Sarah Baker, Sam Broderius, and Lauren Rothschiller all recorded individual wins over the two-day event.  Baker posted a pair of wins and an eighth place finish, winning both the long jump (17’ 0.75”) and high jump (5’ 4.25”), and coming in eighth in the 100-meter dash (13.03).  Broderius continued to perform in the throws with three top-three marks.  She won the discus with a toss of 138’ 4”, finished runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 42’ 8.75”, and placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 148’ 8”.  Rothschiller notched Gustavus’ final win by taking first in the triple jump with a leap of 35’ 4.5” and adding a ninth place finish in the long jump.

Second place performers included Abby Karl, Megan Lundgren, Danielle Burgmeier, and Ally Voss.  Karl finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.66 and 10th in the high jump.  Lundgren placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.22, as did Burgmeier in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.26.  Voss rounded out the group by bringing home silver in the pole vault after clearing 11’ 4.25”.  Anna McDevitt had Gustavus’ only other top-three finish of the meet, taking third in the triple jump (34’ 7.75”).

The Gusties had a strong showing in the 1500-meter run, as three individuals finished in the top-10 in the race.  Beth Hauer took fifth, Brooke Beskau placed sixth, and Andi Eglinton came in ninth.  Erica Roelofs and Bethany Murray finished back-to-back in the 400-meter hurdles in fifth and sixth respectively.  Kim Rostvold and Meredith Bache-Wiig came in ninth and tenth, respectively, in the 500-meter run. Roelofs also came in seventh in the javelin.

Sam Broderius took first in the discus, second in the shot put, and third in the hammer toss at the meet.

Rounding out the top performers on the track was Amanda Iverson, Laura Secor, and Janie Briant.  Iverson placed fourth in the 400-meter dash, Secor took sixth in both the steeplechase and javelin, and Briant finished tenth in the 100-meter dash.

Nevada Wendlandt, Emily Klatt, Emily Hansen, and Lauren TeBrake all recorded top-10 marks in the jumps.  Wendlandt finished seventh in both the high jump and pole vault, Klatt placed seventh in the triple jump, Hansen finished seventh in the high jump, and TeBrake took 10th in the long jump.   Rounding out the top field event performers was Nicki Ainsworth taking fifth in the javelin and Megan Endresen finishing fifth in the shot put.
