Stenoien In Fourth Place After Day One Of MIAC Decathlon

Carl Stenoien sits in fourth place in the MIAC Decathlon with 3,052 points after day one.

Gustavus Adolphus senior track and field athlete Carl Stenoien (Underwood, Minn.) is currently in fourth place with 3,052 points in the MIAC decathlon following the opening day’s events.  St. Thomas’ Devin Dirth leads the way with 3,192 points, while Andrew Million (3,086 pts) of Saint John’s and Maxwell Dunne (3,071 pts) of St. Thomas round out the top-three in second and third place, respectively.  Matt Flotterud (Cannon Falls, Minn.), Gustavus’ only other competitor in the decathlon, sits in seventh place with 2,862 points.

Stenoien turned in four third place finishes and one 11th place mark on the day.  His third place performances came in the 100-meter dash (11.98), long jump (20’ 5.75”), high jump (5’ 11.5”), and the 400-meter dash (52.79).  His toss of 29’ 4.75” in the shot put placed 11th.

Matt Flotterud recorded three top-five finishes on the day.  His top performance came in the high jump, placing second after clearing 6’ 2”.  He also came in fourth in the shot put (35’ 3.25”) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (55.26).  Flotterud rounded out the day with a seventh place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.34) and a 14th place finish in the long jump (17’ 8.75”).

The final day of the MIAC decathlon will begin with the 110-meter hurdles on Friday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m.
